Kafue National Park is special. With no fences, the wildlife is free to roam wherever they wish and likewise, MAWIMBI is totally in tune with nature and has no artificial barriers to the wildlife.

 

We honour the natural world, by giving way as the animals walk ancient paths through our camp. Between the river and the dambo (wetland) you'll see puku, wild dog, lion, elephant, porcupine, civet, impala, hippo, leopard and many other tiny creatures.

You may be lucky enough to see a civet on your way back to your tented suite, a hippo eating in the darkness away from the river or a monitor lizard scampering back to the water...and whilst reading a book in the afternoon, an elephant may walk gently past on her padded feet, so silently you may not even hear her. Our staff will always be there to escort you safely to your tented suite at night, and guided bush walks are a highlight of staying at MAWIMBI.

​In the morning, when you rise to the morning chorus and grab a cup of coffee, be sure to check the spoor around your tent and just outside the camp from the night before...you'll see tracks from our visitors under the cloak of darkness.
